It?s a cool place to spend time, the vendors are nice, and there?s cool booths. However, going outside through the side door where the outside vendors are set up, there is a ?ramp? that is far too steep for wheelchair users such as myself. On Saturday, February 24th, my boyfriend and I ventured out to T-Anchor Flea Market. At the end of looking around inside, we decided we wanted to check out the outdoor vendors. We attempted to exit through the side door that?s located between two booths. As my boyfriend held the door open, I started up the (very steep) ?ramp?. My chair, although a power chair, is back-heavy, and as soon as I made it up about halfway, my chair lost any kind of traction and I flew backwards. I ended up smacking my elbow, bumping my head (because after a lifetime of being a wheelchair user, holding my head up when falling backwards has become a habit), and hitting my back on the concrete/Asphalt floor. Luckily, a very nice family stopped to help me up before I had the chance to be extremely embarrassed. With that being said, I?m sure not many of you know the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) specifications of ramp slopes/gradients, but this ?ramp? definitely did not meet those standards. Before this happens to someone else who has the time and capability to sue, T-Anchor Flea Market needs to get in compliance with ADA. This could?ve been so much worse had it been an older individual. Handicapped individuals deserve the ability to explore venues and have accessible (and safe) means to do so. If you made it this far into this review, thank you for your time. It just needed to be said.
